19th Century is a refreshingly modern take on a classic cocktail, the Brandy Crusta. Created by Charles Baker in 1876, this recipe was originally published in his seminal work of bartending recipes "The Gentleman's Companion." It is made of whiskey, sugar, water, and bitters.They were originally invented to mask the taste of alcohol and make it more palatable for people who could not drink straight liquor. They became popular because they were an affordable way to get drunk and this was before there was any kind of federal regulation on drinking.

Ingredients
1 ½ ounce Bourbon whiskey
¾ ounce Fresh lemon juice
¾ ounce White creme de cacao
¾ ounce Lillet Rouge
Recipe
1. Shake with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass.
2. Serve in a Cocktail Glass.
