The origins of the Boomerang cocktail can be traced back to a man named David Embury. In 1948, he wrote a book called The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks which contained recipes for different cocktails. According to him, the boomerang cocktail was created at the Saint Charles Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Apparently, it was created by bartender Earl J. Jones for Joe Sheridan who had had an argument with his girlfriend.
This cocktail is based on the visual effect of motion in a loop. A cocktail that takes its name from this motion because it also has the ability to "come back".
