The Corpse Reviver is one of the most popular cocktails in history. It was invented in 1930 by Fernand Petiot, an owner of Harry’s New York Bar, to give his customers a second wind after the end of night.
Petiot was an advocate for absinthe, which he believed had medicinal properties. The Corpse Reviver contains absinthe, which accounts for it’s reputation as a hangover cure or hangover prevention cocktail. It got this name for its supposed ability to bring people who had overindulged in alcohol back from the dead.
