The Eastern Sour gets its name from Harold St. Claire, the man who created it. St. Claire was a bartender at the Navy Club in Washington D.C., and invented the cocktail sometime between 1933 and 1946. This is one of two tiki drinks that St. Claire created; the other, "Grog," is very similar, but substitutes light rum for gin.
In a shaker jar, combine all ingredients; add ice and shake. Strain into a rocks glass with an 11-inch ice cube or serve in a cocktail glass.
