Gentleman’s

The origins of the Gentleman's cocktail are from the late 19th century when it was called a "Boston Sour" In 1876, a New York bartender called Patrick Duffy created the drink. In his version, he used whiskey, ruby port and lemon juice. His recipe is still widely followed today in many variations. However, it was in 1884 that George Kappeler published a book called "Modern American Drinks," which is when he named the drink a "Gentleman's cocktail." It can be made in a variety of ways with different types of alcohol. Some use Cognac or Sherry while others use apple brandy or gin. The most common ingredients are whisky (or bourbon), brandy, Crème de Menthe and either lemon or club soda.
