The Grandfather Cocktail is a classic cocktail that originated in the 1880s at the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen’s club in Louisville, Kentucky. The drink was created by George J. Kappeler, head bartender at the Pendennis Club, who compiled “Cocktails: How to Mix Them” in 1887. The original recipe called for Old Tom gin, which gave it its name.
