The Spiced Rum Tipsy Tea cocktail is a mixture of rum with a sugar syrup, ginger, and lemon juice. This cocktail is usually served with a slice of lime and mint leaves. The drink’s name was inspired by the British navy sailors who would serve themselves this drink as they were coming off duty on ships docked in Calcutta during World War II.
The popularity of this cocktail increased during the 1990s when it became one of the signature drinks at Trader Vic's restaurant in San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square. It is also popularly served at the Tiki bar, Citizen Smith in Melbourne. The term “Tipsy Tea” can be recognized as an old English slang term for alcohol or to get drunk.
