The Alaska Cocktail is a drink that features dry gin and pineapple juice. It is a gin and chartreuse based cocktail. It also includes Chartreuse, which is shaken with the other ingredients and served in a cocktail glass. This drink is traditionally held in cold temperatures such as an ice bucket with crushed ice.
The original recipe dates back to the 1920’s, when it was created by an employee at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. He was inspired by Alaska Weather conditions where people don’t need to use rugs for warmth because of the heat.
It's possible to have this drink without gin but adding vodka instead. This variation has become popular among college students who enjoy mixing drinks that are difficult to find at home or too expensive to purchase on a regular basis.
