The Modern Gin Sling is a cocktail made with gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup or honey, soda water, and bitters. It is served in an Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes. This cocktail was created by British actor George Jessel in 1934 during his visit to Hollywood. When he was there, he visited the bar of the Ambassador Hotel and ordered one of his favorite cocktails - the Gin Fizz - but they didn't have all of the ingredients they needed to make it properly so he improvised this drink.
